There Egyptian laws on adoption vary according to the circumstances or religion of the adoptive parents' religious background. Egypt follows Islamic Shari'a law does not allow for full adoption of a child, but rather foster or guardianships are granted. At least one of the parents much be of Egyptian nationality and between the ages of 25 and 55 years of age. There may not be more than 2 children unless they are old enough to be self dependant. Families must obtain special permission from the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide care for more than one child.
